Peers Have Greater Impact than Mentors

According to Fox Small Business, 89 percent of small business owners report that their personal relationships impact how they run their business. The findings are part of a report from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). The report also found that peers influenced 67 percent of the business owners, but only 51 percent reported being influenced by a mentor.

While today's workplace is awash with buzzwords and cliches, certain terms and phrases are more common -- and grating -- than others, according to an Accountemps survey of human resources (HR) managers. "Dynamic," "deep dive" and "leverage" were among the most overused and annoying business buzzwords cited by those polled.

Five States Get Early Access to Health Insurance Marketplace

Five states will get early access to the federal small business health insurance marketplace, reports The St. Louis Post Dispatch. In October, small businesses in Missouri and Illinois, along with three other states, will get a chance to use the Small Business Health Options Program, or SHOP to find health insurance for their employees. Open enrollment begins in November.
