Statistics from The Family Business Institute show that only 30% of all family businesses survive beyond the founder’s generation, reports the New York Times. From there only 12% make it to a third generation. Those that are successful share several traits including the ability to reinvent, focus on succession and the ability to seek outside help.

According to Business Week, more small businesses are converting from traditional healthcare plans to self-insured plan. While this saves costs, their are risks involved.

Second stage businesses, small to medium sized businesses that have made it through the first three years of business, are economic catalysts, reports the Palm Beach Post. These businesses are in a position to grow and in doing so will help the local economy.
