Computers are Old School

altOr at least desktops and laptops are quickly becoming if not obsolete, at least not the latest thing for business.  But when it comes down to it, how portable should you be?

When thinking about portability issues, there are several questions that need to be answered.

How important is it for your people (or yourself) to work from places other than the office?

This question is important because it will tell you whether or not the outlay is worth what you get.  In other words, will not being able to work on the go hinder your business and affect your bottom line?

How will they be connecting?  Are they using proprietary wi-fi? This means will they have a portable hotspot that allows them to connect to a dedicated network or program from anywhere in the world.

Are they “Cloud Computing” so that the entire group can see their files?

Cloud computing is always a good options for groups that need to be able to share and change documents on the fly.  Cloud computing or uploading them to an ‘offsite’ database protected by a password, allows other office members with the correct password to download, review, change and upload documents so that if the numbers or information in a presentation should change, they can be replaced on-the fly.

These are a few of the basic questions that need to be answered if the old system of computers tied to desks seems just a little ‘old school’ for you.
