1. Online Industry. Online Industry jobs are hot, whether it be social media consulting or an online business, the computer/online industry is going to be a big one for start ups this year.
2. Elderly Services. Whether it be elderly "babysitting" services, helping older people prepare meals, or get back and forth to the doctor, any business surrounding older adults is going to really take off this year as well.
3. Personal Care Services. Whether it be laundry/dry cleaning services, home cleaning, even car detailing services, people like to "be taken care of" and they always will pay for that luxury. People love to feel pampered and always need help around the home, so if you have a knack for this kind of work, this could be a really great industry to start a business.
4. Health and Wellness. People are really starting to take a better, more pronounced interest in their health, and it is showing. No matter what is your expertise, from starting a gym or personal training business, to a build your own salad bar, or yogurt franchise. Anything relating to health and wellness is really popular right now!
5. Accounting/Money Management. This is a great business to start in a recession, because people feel better having someone to guide them through their financial decisons, especially in uncertain financial times.
6. Catering/Mobile Food Vendor. This seems like such a fun business to start! Whehter it is going to be for weddings or special events, or a food contractor that delivers lunches to busy office workers, there is a high demand for this kind of service!
7. Mobile App Design. Apps, Apps, Apps! There are so many apps out there, it's hard to believe that apps developers are still needed, but there is really a demand for it! Location based apps are especially popular and in demand right now!

9. Self Storage/Moving Companies. Anything in this sector is booming right now, and it's mostly because people are moving to smaller, cheaper housing. Also, lots of people who end up in forclosure need a place to store their things when they have to move.
10. Healthy/Natural Foods Stores. People are really watching what they are eating and it shows. People are wanting more choices in the organic/natural world. In my small hometown, our two biggest booming businesses are an organic vegetable farm and a small local meat company. It is so nice to see companies like this succeeding!
