Home Depot Accepts PayPal: Should You?

alt

If you follow business news at all, you probably know that Home Depot recently rolled out a new program allowing customers to pay with their PayPal accounts in store. This is a very revolutionary idea, and customers seem to be loving the option! The question is, should your business accept PayPal too?

If you have an e-business, or at least a website, you need to be accepting PayPal. No question about it. PayPal is one of the most popular ways to pay for online purchases and lots of major retailers offer PayPal as a form of payment. It is a very good idea to accept PayPal if you have online sales.

In store sales are another story. Right now, Home Depot is the only store that I know of that accepts PayPal in store, although I have heard that other small businesses are doing it as well. I also hear that PayPal is in talks with over 20 other major retailers, and that they will be coming soon to the PayPal In Store Check Out. From what we know at this point, those retailers include Toys R Us, Office Depot, JC Penney, Nine West, Jamba Juice, Guitar Center, Barnes and Noble, American Eagle Outfitters, and Advance Auto Parts.

If PayPal In Store check out becomes more mainstream, I would recommend that you try to allow it in your store. The benefits certainly seem to be there, and the response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive. Customers like choices, and this is one they are really liking!  It is a great way for people to use money that is in their PayPal account, and I think that it will be extremely popular going forward! I am not sure how many companies will be utilizing this in store in the future, but I would highly consider using it for your business if you get the opportunity!
