It Is Not Too Late to Try These Big Ideas "Your Ideas Matter! \nWrite them down :)\nA motivational quote on a coworking space."

As you think of starting a new business this year, it is important that you take the changes in the business environment into account. With the long-lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, many things about the products and services we consume have changed significantly, and so are businesses. While starting a restaurant would be a good trend initially, many brick-and-mortar stores are now facing countless challenges as they seek to counter the challenges brought about by the pandemic. For your business to survive a tough business environment, you need to create a sound business plan that will allow you to have a step-by-step strategy on how to approach issues. While some opportunities may have suffered a setback due to the pandemic, others have emerged. Here are some small business ideas that you should consider as you think of making a change during these trying times.

  1. Cleaning service

If you like cleaning, you can consider turning your passion into a business. With a few people to help out, some cleaning supplies and some form of transportation, you can look for customers in your neighbourhood. This can be from individuals such as homeowners, apartment complexes and other commercial properties that people live in and may need help with. Set up the price for your service at a rate that is friendly and can also give you some profit. Cleaning services, unlike other services, are straightforward and have little overhead costs. You simply need to plan well, be dedicated to your work and do marketing to let potential customers know about your service.

If you are seeking a way of differentiating yourself from other providers of similar services, consider adding premium services like floor vacuuming, waxing and exterior power washing for a fee. These services can give you an edge over your competitors due to the variety of services you offer.

  1. Freelance content writing

If you are a talented wordsmith with some marketing knowledge, you can build a career as a freelance content or copywriter or editor. You can show your prowess by writing catchy articles, blogs, web content or press releases. Raise your value as a wordsmith by learning a few tricks such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to help you write content that targets search engines through specific keywords that are visible on online searches. You can charge between $30 and $50 per hour. However, if you have more expertise, you can charge more. If you can manage your time well and remain disciplined, this can be the right business for you.

  1. Translation service

Translation services are among the most in-demand in the market today. Although research by IBISWorld states that the translation services industry declined in 2020, like many other industries, it was forecasted by the same organization that the industry will grow in the next five years. This growth is nothing unexpected because the internet has opened up entrepreneurship space in other countries to English speakers and vice versa.

This has opened up the space for multilingual speakers to offer services such as document translation and translation of website information into languages that can be used in other markets.  If you are fluent in various languages, this is a venture. The good thing about this is that it has minimal overhead costs.

  1. Rideshare driving

If you have a car and have a problem with your business, perhaps you might want to try rideshare driving. The overhead and the responsibility of running a rideshare business are minimal because rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft take part in it. Furthermore, it gives you the freedom to move from one destination to the other. Drivers have the independence of a small business owner and little workload is needed to manage behind-the-scenes logistics.
