Tips for choosing the right laptop for your small business needs

According to StatCounter, more than half of the computer models sold in the United States during March 2018 were laptops.  The remaining units were primarily of the personal computer/desktop variety while a small percentage were tablets.

The market is flooded with a myriad of manufacturers and models, so it is useful to know what you want your laptop to do, how much memory you want it to have and how much you want to spend.

Successful Business News spoke with entrepreneurs to discuss the pros and cons of the laptops they rely on to help them accomplish their goals.

Q: What laptop do you use?

A: Asus Q205L i5, 2.2 Ghz, 8 GB Ram

Q: When did you purchase it?

A: 2016

Q: How does it help you get your work done?

A: It’s portable. It is fast enough to get work done with multiple windows open.

Q: Assuming you like your laptop, describe why.

A: Asus is like a Subaru- you can drive it into the ground. It lasts, is durable, and has few glitches. I am hard on my computers, and others just don’t hold up. I like the larger screen, as I spend many hours looking at it. The full sized, light up keyboard makes it great to work at night when everyone is asleep, even when I am travelling.

Q: What laptop do you use?

A: Dell Inspiron 7000 Gaming

Q: When did you purchase it?

A: March 2018.

Q: How does it help you get your work done?

A: My old 2010 MacBook was starting to show signs of its age. When running several programs at once, the poor thing would slow down to a crawl.  My new Dell is classified as a gaming computer and can handle all of my multi-tasking.

Q:  Assuming you like your laptop, what do you enjoy about it?

A: The laptop is well built and has massive cooling fans. I like that I can sit with it on the couch and not burn myself. The speed is impressive and the bootup time is unbelievable. I have been working on presentations, and the task is taking half as much time.

Q: What laptop do you use?

A: I use multiple machines for different purposes, i.e. an HP Elitebook and an Apple MacBook Pro, both with 16gb ram and a solid state 256gb hard drive.

Q: When did you purchase them?

A: I replace my laptops every two to three years.

Q: How do they help you get your work done?

A: They allow me to get my work done until I get back to my office where I use a custom i7 CPU with 64gb Ram, over 2TB of solid state storage and multiple UHD 34” curved flat panel displays.

Q: Assuming you like your laptops, what do you enjoy about them?

A: I like them both because they’re light, powerful, have good resolution screens and are portable.
