Downtime and Data Loss Vulnerability Index

Continuity Software [http://www.continuitysoftware.com ](TM), the world's leading provider of disaster recovery (DR) monitoring and management solutions, has announced the results of the first ever cross industry Downtime and Data Loss Vulnerability Index

The Index, which was based upon data gathered over a 12 month period, reveals a continuing trend among data centers, large and small, that regardless of time and budget dedicated to the elimination of downtime and data loss threats, the majority of today's business and governmental organizations remain dangerously exposed.

- Government organizations exhibit a higher proportion of downtime and data loss risks than commercial businesses. - Among private sector companies, telecommunication organizations lag behind other industries in containing downtime and data loss risks.

- Finance and utility companies exhibited below average vulnerability.

- High availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) risks are most prevalent in the storage and server layers.

- HA and DR risks in the virtualization layer are still minimal as many organizations are still shying away from running high-complexity business-critical application in a virtual environment. "The results from Continuity Software's Downtime and Data Loss Vulnerability Index Benchmark Test are quite telling," said Doron Pinhas, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Continuity Software.

"Clearly, despite best intentions to eliminate HA and DR risks, both public and private organizations across all sectors continue to experience a significant number of incidents that could result in downtime and data loss. However, what is even more alarming is the fact that many organizations, regardless of size or industry, do not even know these risks exist in their environment as they depend on just annual or semi-annual manual testing, which does not account for the vulnerabilities that arise throughout the rest of the year - starting perhaps, the very next day after testing is complete."
