Small Business Passes Healthcare Cost to Employees

Healthcare costs have been rising for the past decade, reports the Washington Post, and most small businesses are coping with that by passing the costs on to their employees. A new survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation finds that 58% of employees at small firms pay a deductible of $1,000. This is up from 21% in 2007.

Business Confidence Remains Flat

According to Fox Small Business, the monthly National Federation of Independent Business Confidence survey shows that optimism was flat in August, decreasing by 0.1 points from July’s 94. Despite that 16 percent of small-business owners reported plans to increase employment, and 25 percent intend to make capital outlays.

According to Newsday, a new survey shows that 60 percent of U.S. companies do not have a bring-your-own-device policy in place. In addition, 80 percent of the companies have not informed their employees of the risks of bringing their own devices to work.

Small Business Financing Up

U.S. small businesses took on more debt in July, pushing an index of borrowing to a six-year high, reports Reuters. The Thomson Reuters/PayNet Small Business Lending Index, shows that financing to small companies, rose 11 percent in July to 117.7, the highest level since August 2007.

Small Business Owners Skip the Vacation

A new survey from American Express shows that small business owners are forgoing vacations this summer. Only forty-nine percent of the survey's participants said they planned to take at least one full week off during the summer. This is down from 54 percent a year ago. Pre recession over 67 percent of those surveyed planned on taking a vacation.
