According to the Washington Post, the House Judiciary Committee has approved the Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act (RFIA). The RFIA is designed to prevent small businesses from suffering unnecessary regulatory burdens. The act would require federal agencies identify and consider indirect consequences of proposed regulation on small businesses, not merely direct consequences. Read more...

Small businesses lending increased in December, reports Reuters.com. The Thomson Reuters/PayNet Small Business Lending Index grew to 129.8 in December. This is the highest third highest rate on record, with the highest rate, 131.7 found in October of 2008. Read more...

Small business hiring fell in January, reports the Washington Post. Overall, only 78,000 jobs were added in January, down from 115,000 in December. This is the first time since October that small businesses haven’t added over 100,000 jobs. Read more...
