Less Than Half of Small Businesses Offer Health Benefits

A report by Bank of America finds that only 33% of the small business owners provide traditional health benefits, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. In contrast, 31% of those surveyed offer other  amenities, such as healthy snacks or massages and about 45% offer employees flexible work or work-from-home options.

Risk of Default Drops

According to financial information provider Sageworks, fewer private U.S. companies are defaulting on their loans, reports Businessweek. Sageworks’ report shows the average risk of default decreased to 4.1 percent, this is down from 5.1 percent in April 2012.

Does Yelp Harm Small Businesses?

The recent online ranting by the owner’s of Amy’s Baking Co. contains one bit of truth, reports the Washington Post, that a bad online review at Yelp can harm the reputation of a small business. Many small businesses question the site’s practices and over 700 companies have filed complaints about Yelp with the Federal Trade Commission.
